Health Plans:
At Blairgowrie Vets we encourage our farmers to engage in herd & flock health planning which is also becoming a requirement in the majority of farm assurance schemes.
Prevention of any future issues on farm is key and having a health plan in place helps to target and minimise these problems along with preparing protocols for any diseases occurring with a focus on preventative health care in order to improve animal welfare and productivity on farm.
Working together we can create a health plan tailored to your farm discussing your yearly aims, targets, production data, specific diseases on farm and treatment of these, preventative healthcare & biosecurity.

Hospitalisation facilities:
We have a pen available for hospitalisation of calves/small ruminants when necessary giving us the ability to provide intravenous fluids and further care in a monitored environment.

Diagnostic Testing:
We have in house blood testing machines for general health checks of sick animals.
We work closely with our local veterinary laboratory where we can send a number of diagnostic samples for testing in order to aid diagnosis and investigation of disease and problems on farm.
In house/calf side scour tests can be used to rapidly identify common organisms causing scour and enable targeted treatment.

Post Mortem Service:
Post mortems are a key aspect of investigating disease on farm at both an individual and herd/flock basis.
Since the closure of our local post mortem facilities our vets have undergone a post mortem training course in order to continue providing this service.
Performing post mortems allows a visual inspection of organs to assess for any abnormalities, usually a selection of samples will be taken for further analysis at a local laboratory to aid and confirm diagnosis.

Official Veterinarian Duties:
Our vets are trained by APHA to perform Offical Veterinarian (OV) duties:
  • TB Testing
  • Exports
  • Abortion enquiries
  • Sudden death enquiries
